Hymns and songs about the Parable of the Tares / Weeds / Darnel among the Wheat

This is a selection of hymns based directly on the  Parable of the Tares among the Wheat (also know as Weeds among the Wheat, or Darnel among the Wheat, or The Wheat and the Tares.

It does not include hymns about other topics which can be inferred from the parable, just ones which relate directly to the parable.

The list is grouped into two sections:
  • Free-use (either copyright has expired, or the author has allowed them to be freely used)
  • Still subject to copyright and so can only be used if you are covered by a copyright license.

Both children's and adults hymns / songs are included in each list - because except for the youngest of children, it is is difficult to draw a clear distinction between them.

About the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

This parable is presented in the gopsel of Matthew:  it is Matt 13:24-30.

It tells the story of the farmer who sowed wheat, but whose enemies also sowed weeds in the same field - and gives Jesus advice about how to deal with the situation to get the best result possible in the circumstances.
