Hymns for the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B (30 June 2024 - in some countries) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) hymns, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of hymns which are, or may be, still copyright are also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).




Readings

1st:  Ezekiel 2:2-5 -  The prophet is inspired to speak, even though people may not listen.

Psalm 122 - Our eyes are on the Lord till he shows us his mercy / To you have I lifted up my eyes / Like the eyes of a servant / Have mercy on us Lord

2nd  2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Paul's thorn in the side - a frailty which makes him rely on God’s grace.

Gospel  Mark 6:1-6  Jesus is rejected in his home town.


Themes

God have mercy on us, Courage - like prophets of old, Perseverance, Human weakness. The church as a prophet
