Hymns for the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C (24 July 2022)

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary time, Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of hymns which are, or may be, still copyright are also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

First: Genesis 18:20-32 - Abraham's negotiation with God about saving Sodom and Gomorrah if there are only a few just men found there.

Psalm:  137 - On the day I called, you answered me, O Lord / I thank you Lord with all my heart / I thank you for your faithfulness and love / The Lord is high yet he looks on the lowly / You stretch out your hand and save me

Second: Colossians 2:12-14 - You have been raised up with Christ through your belief in the power of God .. he has brought you to life with him.

Gospel:   Luke 11: 1-13 - Jesus teaches the disciples to pray the "Our Father" ... knock and the door will be opened ... ask and it will be given to you.

Prayer.  Our Father in heaven:   praying to God with confidence and trust.
