Hymns for the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C (24 August 2025) - Catholic lectionary

Hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year C

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.  A small selection of hymns which are still copyright may also be included, where they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments section at the bottom of the page.

Readings

First: Isaiah 66: 18-21  - The Lord says "I am coming to gather the nations of every language ... I will send ... to the distant islands that never heard of me ... they will proclaim my glory to the nations".

Psalm: 116 - Go out to the whole word, proclaim the Good News / O praise the Lord all you nations / Strong is his love for us.

Second: Hebrews 12 5-7, 11-13 - The Lord trains the ones he loves ... suffering is part of your training ... it bears fruit in peace and goodness.

Gospel:   Luke 13: 22-30 -  Jesus teaches "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many will struggle" .  Men from the east and west, north and south will come to take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.  The first will be last and the last will be first.
