A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary time, Year B.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

Readings

First:  Jeremiah 23:1-6 — Shepherds who neglect their flocks are condemned, as God promises to intervene for the sake of the people — just as a good shepherd would do.

Psalm: Psalm 22 (23) - The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.

Second: Ephesians 2:13-18 - Christ, by his blood, ends hostility and brings people together.

Gospel:  Mark 6:30-34 - Jesus encourages the apostles to rest, but takes pity on the people also.

Themes

God is like a shepherd who always looks after the flock:  God cares for us in all our needs.
