It does not include hymns about other topics which can be inferred from the parable, just ones which relate directly to it.
The list is grouped into two sections:
- Free-use (either copyright has expired, or the author has allowed them to be freely used)
- Still subject to copyright and so can only be used if you are covered by a copyright license.
Both children's and adults hymns / songs are included in each list - because except for the youngest of children, it is is difficult to draw a clear distinction between them.
About the Parable of the Good Samaritan
The parable of the Good Samaritan is a story which is told by Jesus in response to a lawyer asking, "And who is my neighbor?". It is included in the Gospels in Luke 10:25-37.In this story, a traveler (implied to be Jewish) is attacked and left on the roadside, injured, perhaps close to dead, and without clothing. People passing by include a Jewish priest and a Levite, and they cross the road to avoid him. Then a man from Samaria passes. He helps the injured man even though historically Jews and Samaritans are enemies.
The teaching-point of the parable is that the real neighbor is the person who shows mercy.
Some teachers suggest that the Samaritan represents Jesus saving sinners. Others disagree, and see the story as directly teaching about the ethics of mercy and God's love of all humankind.
