Hymns for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A (2 July 2023) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of  hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year A.

Most are free-to-use, meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.   Many of these hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.  A small selection of hymns that are still subject to copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Readings

First: Kings 4:8-11,  14-16:   The prophet Elisha is given hospitality by a woman who recognises that he is a holy man of God.

Psalm: 88 - I will sing forever of your love O Lord / Happy the people who acclaim such a king / For it is you O Lord who are the glory of their strength.

Second: Romans 6:3-4,8-11 - You too must consider yourselves to be dead to sing, but alive for God in Christ Jesus.

Gospel:  Matt 10: 37-42 - Anyone who does not take his cross and follow my footsteps is not worthy of me .. anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.

Themes

Recognising and welcoming Christ, and living in his way - recognising his disciples / prophets.   Offering hospitality.
