Hymns for Proper 19 (24), Year C (14th Sunday after Pentecost - 11 Sept 2022) - Revised Common Lectionary

Hymns and song suggestions based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free), meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.  A small selection of copyright hymns may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28 - The Lord says "The whole land shall be a desolation; yet I will not make a full end." The earth shall mourn, and the heavens above grow black; for I have spoken, I have purposed; I have not relented nor will I turn back.
Exodus 32: 4-17 - Moses convinces the Lord to show mercy to the people who he bought out of Egypt, even though they were sinning.

Psalm:  50 - I will leave this place and go to my father / Have mercy to me O God in your kindness / A pure heart create for me O God / O Lord open my lips.

Second:  I Timothy 1: 12-17 -  Jesus came to save sinners - he showed his mercy to the, as God's mercy was shown to Paul.

Gospel:   Luke 15:1-10 -  Parable of the missing sheep or missing drachma - rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant sinner.

God's Mercy, Compassion, Love:  God's response to our repentance.  Repentance.  Reconciliation.  Finding the lost.
