About this feast

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the belief that the Mother of God, was taken, body and soul, when her life on earth was over, into heaven. The hymn suggestions for this day focus on this aspect of Mary's life, and the prescribed readings for the day.

First: Apocalypse 11:19; 12:1-6, 10 - A sign appeared in heaven, a woman adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, with 12 stars for a crown, pregnant and in labour ... a second sign, a dragon ready to eat the child ... .

Psalm 44 - On your right hand stands the Queen in garments of gold / The daughters of kings are among your loved ones / So will the king desire your beauty.

Second: I Paul 15:20-26  -  Death and the resurrection have come through one man - eventually he will do away with every power, sovereignty and authority and hand the Kingdom to God the Father.
