Hymns for the 5th Sunday of Easter, Year A - Revised Common Lectionary (7 May 2023)

A selection of  hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the 5th Sunday of Easter, Year A.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of particularly suitable hymns which are still copyright may also be included.


Readings

First: Acts 7:55-60  - Stephen sees a vision of the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.  He is dragged him out of the city, and while being stoned he pray, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit" and "Lord, do not hold this sin against them."

Psalm: 32 -  In you, O Lord, I seek refuge

Second: I Peter 2: 2-10 - The stone the builders rejected has proven to be the cornerstone .. you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation ... God called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Gospel: John 14: 1-14 - Jesus said "I am going now to prepare a place for you ... I am the Way, the Truth and the Life ... whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself ... because I am going to the Father.
