Hymns for the 5th Sunday of Easter - Year A (3 May 2026) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of  hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the 5th Sunday of Easter, Year A.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of particularly suitable hymns which are still copyright may also be included.

Readings

First: Acts 6: 1-7  - The apostles asked the community to elect seven men to take over the daily bread distribution, so that they themselves could focus on prayer and service of the Word.

Psalm: 32 - May your love be upon us O Lord as we place all our hope in you / Ring out your joy to the Lord /  For the word of the Lord is faithful / the Lord looks on those who revere him..

Second: I Peter 2: 4-9 - The stone the builders rejected has proven to be the cornerstone .. you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation ... God called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Gospel: John 14: 1-12 - Jesus said "I am going now to prepare a place for you ... I am the Way, the Truth and the Life ... whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself ... because I am going to the Father.
