Hymns suggestions 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A

A selection of free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) hymns and song suggestions, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the twenty seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A.

"Free-to-use" means the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.

Many of these hymns are old / traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.

Readings

First: Isaiah - The prophet compares Jerusalem with a vineyard that only produces sour grapes. ...  The Lord of hosts expected justice but found bloodshed, expected integrity but found only a cry of distress

Psalm 79 - The vineyard of the Lord is the House of Israel / Your brought a vine out of Egypt / Then why have you broken down its walls / God of hosts, turn again we implore, and we shall never forsake you again..

Second: Philippians - If there is anything you need, pray for it ... fill your minds with everything that is true, noble, good ... then the peace of God will be with you.

Gospel: Matthew 21 - Parable of the wicked tenants who killed the vineyard owners son - the stone the builders rejected became the keystone - the kingdom will be given to a people who will product its fruit.

Themes

The Church as the vineyard of the Lord.    God as the creator of all.  Our need to examine our lives to see if we are bearing fruit.
