This observance marks the lives and heroism of Jewish people who died in the Holocaust between 1933 and 1945, and some Christian communities choose to have a service on this day. The day is observed on 27 April in Israel, but in some other countries the date varies from year to year - a chart of US dates is available here.
"Free-to-use" means the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting. Many of these hymns are old / traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.
