Hymns for the 3rd Sunday of Easter, Year A (23 April 2023) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the  3rd Sunday of Easter, Year A.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many of these hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of hymns that are still copyright may be included, where they are particularly relevant to the theme.

Readings

First: Acts 2:14, 22-23 - Peter addressed the crowd at Pentecost, comparing Jesus with the patriarch David:   God raised this man Jesus to life and caused him to receive the Holy Spirit, whereas we have David's tomb with us.

Psalm: 15 - Show us, Lord, the path of life / Preserve me God I take refuge in you / I will bless the Lord who gives me council / And so my heart rejoices my soul is glad / You will show me the path of life.

Second: I Peter 1:17-21 - Through Christ you now have faith in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory for that very reason.

Gospel: John 24: 13-35 - Jesus appears to the disciples on the road to Emmaus - they recognised him at the breaking of bread.

Themes
