Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.
A small selection of hymns which are still copyright, but are a particularly good fit for the day's readings, are also included.
Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.
About this day
In 2024, this is also Temperance Sunday (in Ireland, possibly elsewhere) and also World Day of the Sick and the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Readings
First: Leviticus 13: 1-2m 44-46 - The Lord tells Moses and Aaron what to do if someone in the community has leprosy - that the person must be unclean and live outside the camp.
Psalm: 31 - You are my refuge O Lord, you fill me with the joy of salvation / Happy the one whose offense is forgiven / But now I have acknowledged my sings / Rejoice in the Lord.
Second: I Corinthians 10:31 - 11:1 - Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God ... work for the advantage of everybody so they may be saved.
Gospel: Mark 1:40-43 - Jesus heals a leper, and orders him not to tell people what was done. But the man does tell people, so Jesus is besieged and has to go to places where no one lives.
