Hymns for Proper 27 (Ordinary 32), in Year C (9 Nov 2025) - Revised Common Lectionary

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for Sunday of Proper 7 (Ordinary 32) in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.  A small selection of hymns that are still be copyright may also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).

Note:  some churches will omit the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, and mark All Saints on the following Sunday instead.

Readings

First:
Haggai 1:15b-2:9
the word of the LORD came by the prophet Haggai, saying ... take courage .. for I am with you ... Once again, ...I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land; and I will shake all the nations, so that the treasure of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with splendor.
OR
Job 19:23-27a
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth ...  I shall see God

Second: II Thessalonians 2: 1-5, 13-17 :  Do not be alarmed about the coming of the Lord ... We must give thanks for those who were called by the Lord  - hold fast to the traditions we taught you ... may the Lord turn your hearts towards the love of God and the fortitude of Christ.

Gospel: Luke 20: 27-38  - The Sadducees try to trick Jesus with a question about brothers marrying their brother's widow.   Jesus teaches them about the resurrection - God is God of the living, not the dead.

Themes

Hope.  Faith.   Resurrection / eternal life - our belief in the future that Christ promised, rather than speculation about what life after death is like.
