Hymns for Proper 26 (Ordinary 31), Year C (2 Nov 2025) - Revised Common Lectionary

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the Sunday of Proper 26 (Ordinary 31) in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free), so the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.  Many of these hymns are old / traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.

A small selection of hymns that are still copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Readings

First:
Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4
The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw:
O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? ... The wicked surround the righteous-- therefore judgment comes forth perverted.   Then the Lord answered  "For there is still a vision for the appointed time" ...
OR
Isaiah 1:10-18
God speaks to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, telling them to make [them]selves clean ...cease to do evil,  learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.

Second:  II Thessalonians 1:1-4, 11-12 We pray that God will make you worthy ... Christ will be glorified in you.   Turn to the coming of Jesus - but do not be alarmed by predictions that the day has come.

Gospel: Luke 19: 1-10 - Zacchaeus the tax-collector climbed a tree so Jesus would see him - Jesus dined with him, Zacchaeus has a change of heart and is saved.  Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
