Hymns for the 2nd Sunday of Easter, Year A - Revised Common Lectionary (16 April 2023)

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the 2nd Sunday of Easter, Year A.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free), so the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small number of hymns that are still copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other suitable hymns are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Readings

First: Acts 2: 14a, 22-32  -  Peter, addressed the people, reminding that that Jesus was handed over to them according to God's plan, crucified and killed - but God raised him up, because it was impossible for him to be held in death's power - and that David predicted this.

Psalm: 16 - Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

Second: I Peter 1: 3-9 - Blessed be God .. who in his great mercy has given us new birth ... by raising Jesus Christ from the dead.  Your faith is worth more than gold.

Gospel: John 20: 19-31 - Jesus appears to the apostles while they are locked in the upper room.  He wished Peace upon them, and breathed the Holy Spirit on them.   But Thomas was not there, and doubted.   Eight days later, Jesus came back and Thomas saw and believed.   Jesus response;   Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.
