Seasonal note - Divine Mercy Sunday
The first Sunday after Easter is the second Sunday in the Easter Season: Easter Sunday itself is the "1st Sunday of Easter".Within the universal church calendar, the 2nd Sunday of Easter is dedicated to the Divine Mercy devotion.
In some communities, it is known as "Low Sunday" - and has minimal if any music to give choirs and music directors a break after the demands of the Easter Triduum.
Readings
First: Acts 2: 42-47 - The whole community remained faithful to the teaching, the brotherhood and to breaking of bread and prayers ... they lived together and owned everything in common ... day by day the Lord added to their community.Psalm: 117 - Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love had no end / Let the sons of Israel say / I was thrust, thrust down and falling / The stone which the builders rejected.
Second: I Peter 1: 3-9 - Blessed be God .. who in his great mercy has given us new birth ... by raising Jesus Christ from the dead.
Gospel: John 20: 19-31 - Jesus appears to the apostles while they are locked in the upper room. He wished Peace upon them, and breathed the Holy Spirit on them. But Thomas was not there, and doubted. Eight days later, Jesus came back and Thomas saw and believed. Jesus response; Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.
