Hymns for the 7th Sunday of Easter, Year B - Revised Common Lectionary (12 May 2024)

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the seventh Sunday of Easter, Year B.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.  A small selection of hymns which are, or may be, still copyright are also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).

Suggestions about hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a messages in the Comment box near the bottom of the page.

Seasonal note

Ascension is transferred to the seventh Sunday of Easter, in some places.

First: Acts 1:15-17, 20-26 - Peter leads the brothers to choose someone to take the place of Judas as a witness to the resurrection.

Psalm 102 - The Lord has set his sway heaven / My soul give thanks to the Lord / For as the heavens are high above the earth.

Second:  I John 5:9-13 - ...  And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ... Whoever has the Son has life ... I write these things ... so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Gospel: John 17:6-19 - Jesus prays to the Father for the people who he has been given, knowing that he will soon be returning to the Father and that his people will need protection from the evil one.

Witnessing to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.   God's love.  God's Spirit living in us.
