A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the ninth Sunday after Pentecost in Year C.
Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free), so the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.
A small selection of hymns which are still copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.
Suggestions about hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comment box near the bottom of the page.
Isaiah 1:1, 10-20 - The prophet's warning of Sodom and Gomorrah: the Lord will not take your offerings because your hands are full of blood. Remove the evil of your doings ... If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword.
OR
Genesis 15:1-6 - The word of the Lord to Abram in a vision, saying he have not only a heir, but more descendants more than the stars in the sky
Second: Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16 - It was by faith that Abraham set out .. it was by faith that Sarah was made able to conceive.
Gospel: Luke 12: 32-40 - Do not be afraid - give to the poor and provide treasure for yourselves in heaven: Be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect - parable of the faithful and unfaithful servants.
