Hymn for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free, so )the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.

Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.

A small selection of hymns which are still copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Readings

First: Zechariah 12:10-11, 13:1 - When that day comes, there will be a great mourning in Judah - they will mourn for the one they have pierced.

Psalm: 62 - For you my soul is thirsting, O God my God / For you I long / I gave on you in the sanctuary / I will bless you all my life / For you have been my help.

Second: Galatians 3:26-29 - All baptized in Christ, you have clothed yourselves in Christ, there are no distinctions between you.

Gospel: Luke 9:18-24 - Who do you say I am?   The Christ of God - The Son of Man - destined to suffer, be put to death and raised on the third day ... Take up your cross and follow me.

Themes

Suffering and mourning - we become one in Christ, who we look upon.   Unity.   The person of Christ.
