Hymns for the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ / Corpus Christi, Year B (2 June 2024) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Year B.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.  A small selection of hymns which are, or may be, still copyright are also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).

Readings

First: Exodus 24:3-8 - Moses reads the book of the covenant to the people, and they promise to be obedient: he dashes the people with the the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made.

Psalm 115 - The cup of salvation I will raise, I will call on the Lord's name / How can I repay the Lord / O precious in the eyes of the Lord / A thanksgiving sacrifice I make.

Second: Hebrews 9:11-15 - Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, through his sacrifice, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant.

Gospel: Mark 14: 12-16, 22-26 - Jesus disciples prepare for the Passover Meal, and Jesus eats it with them and celebrates the first Eucharist: he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
