Hymns for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A (25 June 2023) - Catholic lectionary

A selection of  hymns and songs, based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year A.

Most are free-to-use, meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.   Many of these hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.  A small selection of hymns that are still subject to copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Readings

First: Jeremiah 20:10-13 - The prophet is disparaged from every side, but knows that God is near ... praise the Lord for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hands of evil ones.

Psalm: 68 - In your great love answer me O God / It is for you that I suffer taunts / This is my prayer to you / The poor when they see it will be glad.

Second: Romans 5:12-15 - Sin entered the world through one man ... divine grace coming through .. Jesus Christ, came to so many as an abundant free gift.

Gospel:  Matt 10: 26-33 - Do not be afraid ... you are worth more than a hundred sparrows .. if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in heaven.

Themes

The Lord is at our side, no matter what we face.   Courage in the face of difficulty.   God's immense care for us.
