Readings
First: 1 Kings 19:1-4, (5-7), 8-15a - After killing all the prophets , Elijah is afraid - he flees into the wilderness, and asks that he might die: But instead the angels give him food to strengthen him to journey for forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God. He pleads his case, and is told to stand on the mountain before the LORD - but the Lord was not the great wind or earthquake or fire - or in the silence after these. Again he confesses, and the Lord tells him to "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus.Psalm: 42/43 - As the deer longs for flowing streams.
Second: Galatians 3:23-29 - All baptized in Christ, you have clothed yourselves in Christ, there are no distinctions between you.
Gospel: Luke 8: 26-39 - The healing of the Gerasene demoniac: Jesus orders demons to leave a man, and lets them enter a herd of pigs instead of returning to the abyss: The pigs drown themselves in a lake. When the people found out, they were seized with fear and asked Jesus to leave. The man who had been healed asks to stay with Jesus, but is told to return home and declare what God has done for him.
