Hymns for the 17th Sunday after Pentecost - Proper 22 (27), Year C (2 Oct 2022) - Revised Common Lectionary

Hymns and songs ideas based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free), meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.  Many of these hymns are old / traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.  A small selection of hymns which are still copyright may also be included, if they are particularly relevant.

Suggestions about other free-to-use hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.

Lamentations 1:1-6 - Reflection on Judah which has gone into exile with suffering and hard servitude; she lives now among the nations, and finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress ... The roads to Zion mourn ...From daughter Zion has departed all her majesty.
OR
Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4 - How long Lord am I to cry for help .. the Lord answered "Write the vision down ... see how he flags, he whose soul is not at rights, but the upright man will live by his faithfulness".

Second:  II Timothy 1:1--14  - I am reminding you to fan into a flame the gift [of the spirit] that God gave you ... you have been trusted to look after something precious.

Gospel:  Luke 17:5-10  -  If you had faith the size of this mustard seed, you could move a mulberry tree.  Do what you have been told to do and say "We are merely servants, we have done no more than our duty".

Themes

Faith.   Service.   Doing God's will.   The new vision that faith gives.
