Hymns for the 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year C (25 Sept 2022) - Catholic lectionary

Hymns and songs based on themes from the Roman Catholic lectionary for the twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing - sometimes in a limited setting.   Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles and genres are included.

A small selection of hymns which are still copyright may also be included, where these are particularly relevant.

Readings

First:  Amos 6: 1, 4-7 - Woe to those who sprawl on their divans and do not care - they will be the first to be exiled.

Psalm:  145 - My soul give praise to the Lord / It is the Lord who keeps faith forever / It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind / He upholds the widow and the orphan.

Second:  I Timothy 6: 11-16 - Fight the good fight of faith ... until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ who at the due time will be revealed as King of kings and Lord of Lords.

Gospel:   Luke 16: 19-31 - The parable of Lazarus and the rich man ... whose brothers have Moses and the prophets as warning.

Themes

Christ's concern for the poor.   Justice.   Social issues.    Our call to listen to the prophets' message.  The corruption that riches can cause.
