Hymns for the Reign of Christ / Christ the King (Proper 29, Ordinary 34) (30 November 2024) - Revised Common Lectionary

Image from PxHere

A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the feast of the Reign of Christ (Christ the King), in Year B.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.

A small selection of hymns that are still copyright, but are a particularly good fit for the day's readings, are also included.

Readings

OR

Psalm: 92 -  The Lord is King, with majesty enrobed / the world made you firm / truly your decrees are to be trusted

Second: Revelation 1:4b-8 - I am the Alpha and the Omega ... who is, who was and who is to come

Gospel: John 18:33-37  - "Are you king of the Jews?" - Mine is not a kingdom of this world ... yes I am a king, I was born for this
